Late Night Call!
I was on call last weekend, so all the phone calls that normally come into our office get forwarded to my cell phone. Unfortunately, a few companies have erroneously listed our number as theirs, so not all calls that I get are actually for my business (but that’s a topic for another day). Around 2:30 in the morning, I got a call from a distressed homeowner; her and her husband had just gotten home, and found water everywhere. The upstairs toilet had a crack in the tank, so water was going all over the place as it kept trying to fill. The homeowner called and wanted to know what to do, would we charge them up front (we don’t, we will bill insurance), and most importantly when someone could get there. I told her I could be on-site within 30 min. She said she would let me know if they wanted me to come out and then hung up.
I was a little surprised, since I had answered her questions and was available, but I went back to sleep. About 30 minutes later, I saw the same number pop up on my caller-ID, so I figured I had gotten the job. She had me come out, and when I got out to the jobsite, it was around 3:30 in the morning. I asked them why they had picked me, and they told me that of all the numbers they had called, I was the only one that answered! I don’t know if all the other water-damage guys were just sleeping well that night or what, but we were able to get the home drying. We sent our Utah disaster cleanup specialists back on Monday and finished all of the tear-out. Drying is still in progress, but the worst part of the process is over now.
